The one food item the Queen never travels without

Published on

The Queen does as she pleases. It’s why she always has a slice of her favourite cake nearby.

Her Majesty’s choice? A chocolate biscuit cake. Homemade. Whenever she travels, be it train, car, or plane, there’s always one to hand, just in case she gets peckish and fancies a treat.

The cake, along with her patent black Launer handbag, are two things the Queen never leaves one of her palaces without.

The adoration was revealed by former royal chef Darren McGrady. He cooked for the royal family for 15 years, and revealed in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar that the monarch likes to make sure she’s never too far from a slice of chocolate biscuit cake.

Darren also recently said that the Queen isn’t a big fan of potatoes, pasta, and garlic. He had to be meticulous in his menu options – and one matter of importance was organising the cake.

Apparently, Her Majesty is so fond of the pudding that when travelling, she asks for a senior sous chef to accompany it for the journey duration.

Darren said: “Now the chocolate biscuit cake is the only cake that goes back again and again and again everyday until it’s all gone.

“She’ll take a small slice every day until eventually there is only one tiny piece, but you have to send that up, she wants to finish the whole of that cake.”
