Usually, when autumn bids farewell and winter arrives, chilly winds replace the scorching sun and cosy indoor weekends become the favourite pass time. These kinds of eves are usually my best times as I relish on my steaming cup of caffeine and enjoy a home alone movie session.
In this winter, I am planning to watch three famous movies, one on every weekend eve.
Marshall Marshall was released on October 13, 2017, by the Open Road. It’s a biographical drama film directed by Reginald Hudlin and written by Michael and Jacob Koskoff. It casts Chadwick Boseman as Thurgood Marshall (the first African-American Supreme Court Justice), and focuses on one of the initial cases of his career. Josh Gad, Kate Hudson, Dan Stevens, Sterling K. Brown, with James Cromwell also acted in the film.
The real scenario of then contemporary court room drama was acted out with much precision by Boseman and thus the film has been reviewed quiet positively by the critics. It managed to reach its targeted revenue of 3 million US dollars. Hopefully, this will be a dive into the real realms of the legal system.
Wonderstruck
Wonderstruck premiered at Cannes Film Festival 2017 on May 18, as the production wanted to secure a position at the Palme d’Or. A legal release was given on October 20, 2017, in USA by Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions.
This mystery drama film, directed by Todd Haynes and based on the 2011 novel Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick, casts Oakes Fegley, Julianne Moore, Michelle Williams, and Millicent Simmonds.
The story rolls as two time dimensions which are set fifty years apart from each other and shift numerous times during the film and the similarities between these two children questing against the ‘normal’ norms play a bridge between the two eras. The film shows how Rose (Simmonds) runs away from her father’s New Jersey home to find her mother/idol, the actress Lillian Mayhew (Moore) in 1927 paralleled to recently orphaned Ben’s (Fegley) escapades from his Minnesota home in search of his father.
Battle of the Sexes
This film starring Emma Stone is the most awaited movie for me. Emma Stone has become one of my favourite actresses after La La Land. Battle of Sexes is a biographical sports film directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, written by Simon Beaufoy. The plot indistinctly stands on the 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs.
This film actually shows the actions that lead to the 1973 match and how it then resulted in such an historic match. The personal lives of both the sports persons were also shown by the casts.
