Climate changes challenge

Syed Noor E Alam

In recent times, the most widely discussed and important issue in the world is climate change. To say it is the biggest challenge of the 21st century. Day by day climate change has become a cause of concern for us due to its adverse impact on biodiversity. Research on this is also going on at a large rate.

The 25-30 year average weather conditions of a place on the earth’s surface is called the climate of that place. It basically refers to significant changes in wind, rainfall, temperature, sunshine, etc. over a long period of time. Natural (various dynamic processes of the earth, solar radiation levels, changes in the direction of the axis, position of the earth relative to the sun, etc.) climate changes naturally, but mainly due to human-made (factories, exhaust gases from vehicles, coal burning, smoke from brick kilns, cutting of trees, etc.) the climate is rapidly changing. is changing

Greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere are increasing due to deforestation. Due to increase in carbon dioxide content in the air, the temperature is increasing at a great rate. It is destroying the balance of the atmosphere. Global warming caused by man-made greenhouse gases is considered one of the main causes of climate change. Global climate change is adversely affecting the environment and people. The average temperature of the earth is increasing, along with the melting of the polar ice caps, the height of the sea level is increasing. Disasters such as floods, cyclones, tidal waves and landslides occur in coastal areas of sea level.

Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries. According to the report entitled ‘Global Climate Risk Index 2021’ published by German Watch, an international research organization based in Germany, Bangladesh ranks seventh among the most vulnerable countries in the world due to climate change. As a result, it is understood that climate change is a threat to Bangladesh. Therefore, we have to play an important role to present a healthy and beautiful world to future people from climate change and its effects. Some effective steps should be taken-

1) Prevention of deforestation and planting of trees: One of the most important things in maintaining the balance of the environment is oxygen. And we get it easily from trees. Currently, the festival of tree cutting is going on at an increasing rate. As a result, biodiversity is under threat. So we should plant trees regularly. Trees should be planted around the house, on the side of the road, on both sides of the railway line, in educational institutions. Forests cannot be destroyed.

2) Reduction in use of fossil fuels: Use of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) should be reduced. It is highly polluting, releasing greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane, which play a major role in climate change.

3) Reducing the use of engine driven vehicles: Efforts should be made to reduce the use of engine driven vehicles as much as possible. Because it releases a lot of carbon monoxide gas, which is very harmful to the human body and the environment. Alternative use of electric/battery powered vehicles, bicycles etc.

4) Recycle: To protect the environment by putting things in a specific place instead of dumping them using chemical methods and making them usable again.

5) Creating public awareness: Regular meetings and seminars should be organized at various places including educational institutions on the causes, effects and actionable aspects of climate change. Awareness should be created among all.

Thus we all have to work on climate change and play an effective role in building a beautiful world.
