Chhatra League must earn trust and confidence of the people:PM

Tarunnoloak: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked the leaders and workers of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) to work for mobilizing public opinion against terrorism and militancy on 14th June at Ganobhaban.

“We don’t want terrorism and militancy. Rather, we want a peaceful environment to continue the socioeconomic development of the country,” she told the leaders and workers of BCL when they met her at her official residence Ganobhaban.

The Prime Minister asked the leaders to develop themselves with principles and ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and be imbued with the spirit of the Liberation War, saying life without an ideology would go in vain.  Sheikh Hasina also urged the BCL leaders and workers to project the achievements of the government in various sectors during the last seven and a half years as well as create awareness for social peace and harmony.

Terming leaders and workers as future leaders of the country, she said, BCL leaders would have to be more attentive to their regular studies and dedicate themselves to supplement the government’s efforts for building an educated nation.  “BCL leaders and workers have a lot to do for projecting the successes of the present government,” she said, adding that leaders and workers of Chhatra League must earn trust and confidence of the people.

Referring to terrorism and militancy and emergence of Bangla Bhai during BNP-Jamaat regime, Sheikh Hasina said her government does not want sprouting of any such group or kingpin of terrorism in the country. The Prime Minister underlined the various aspects of life and works of Bangabandhu, saying Bangabandhu had made huge sacrifices during his long political carrier for an independent country for the Bangalee nation. In this connection, the Prime Minister called upon the Chhatra League leaders and workers to follow the teachings and ideals of Bangabandhu and directed them to work rising above personal interests.

Putting emphasis on having strong personal character, she said, political life would be meaningless if they could not earn trust and love of the people.
Pointing out the BNP-Jamaat’s unbridled corruption, looting and money laundering during their regime, the Prime Minister said a party without any ideology and political goal can give nothing to the nation. They burnt people alive in the name of movement when they were in opposition, she said.
Urging the BCL leaders to nourish the spirit of honesty throughout the life, the Prime Minister said none can harm reputation if a person remains honest. In this regard, she mentioned the World Bank’s false allegation of corruption against her on construction of Padma Bridge.

“There were conspiracies at home and abroad to defame my image, and the image of family and party and thereby the entire nation,” she said, adding that “our bold decision to construct the bridge with own finance brightened the dignity and image of Bangladesh abroad.”  Sheikh Hasina expressed her firm resolve that none would be able to undermine Bangladesh in future, saying that it was her honesty that made the difficult thing possible.
Elaborating various achievements of her government in education, health, ICT, poverty reduction, ensuring food security and other sectors, the Prime Minister said her government has put in highest importance on education to build an educated nation aimed at developing a prosperous Bangladesh.
She asked the BCL leaders and workers to find out illiterate people in their respective areas side by side the children who remained out of school, and then with their united efforts bring them under literacy programme and ensure the enrolment of those children in schools.  President of Bangladesh Chhatra League Central Committee Saifur Rahman Shohag chaired the function while General Secretary SM Jakir Hossain conducted it.
